![]() Dj Dakini – biography - 2011 Dakini (aka Becca Dakini) is a cultural creative & artist actively participating within the Australian and international festival/electronic music community as ...a: dj, project manager, event coordinator, writer, journalist, editor, décor artist, holistic therapist, ritual performer, truthseeker, consciousness explorer and visionary dreamer. Her hometown is Byron Bay, Australia but she perceives herself as a global citizen of the currently emerging conscious & creative culture.
As a dj, Dakini has been captivating dancefloors at major outdoor festivals all over Australia and New Zealand since 1999, evolving through genre after genre of hypnotic sonics over the years. Originally known for playing progressive trance records on sunrise dancefloors in the Australian outdoors, Dakini's dj style now spans many lush and bass heavy sonic genres and she is often dubbed the “Bass Specialist” – glitch step, glitch hop, wobble, dubstep, dubtronica, dubhouse grooves, IDM, breakbeatz, lush temple beats, downbeat, psydub, world & ambient shamanic soundscapes.
One of Australia’s longstanding female artists, she has been known to work a dancefloor with an infectious bassline or entrance an entire chill stage with beautiful sonic splendour at Australia’s largest international outdoor events since the turn of the millenium.
She has played at numerous large & small international outdoor festivals/events/clubs in Australia & New Zealand over the last 11 years such as: Rainbow Serpent Festival, Earthdance International Festival for Peace, Tribeadelic Gathering, Maya Festival, Earthcore, Earthfreq Festival, Phonoscope, Exodus Cybertribal Gathering, Akasha Festival, Submerge Chill Festival, Island Time Festival, Earthdream, Outback Eclipse Festival, Cairns Winter Solstice Festival, Parihaka Peace Festival, Canaan Downs Festival and many more.
Dakini has featured on international lineups playing alongside/supporting artists such as : Tipper (UK), Beats Antique (USA), Bassnectar (USA), Heyoka (USA), Vibesquad (USA), An-Ten-Nae (USA), Bluetech (USA), Aes Dana (France), Eat Static (UK), Ott (UK), Kaya Project (UK), Monolake (Germany), Adham Shaikh (USA), Simon Posford (UK), Shulman (Israel), Spoonbill (AU), Gus Till (AU), Tsuyoshi Suzuki (Japan), Freq Nasty (USA), Antix (NZ), Vibrasphere (Sweden), Gotan Project (France), Fat Freddy's Drop (NZ), Salmonella Dub (NZ), Pitch Black (NZ) and many more.
Signed to the infamous Omelette Records (www.omelette.net.au) founded by sonic maestro Spoonbill, Dakini is regularly featured on the bill along side the world's best glitch hop, crunk, dubstep, wobble and bass music artists, all around Australia.
Dakini’s also recently been signed to Enig’matik Records (http://soundcloud.com/enigmatikrecords), Australia’s freshest new label featuring
artists that represent the pinnacle of glitch based musical production on the planet.
She is the co-founder of Australia’s premiere international chill festival (Submerge Chill Festival) & past editor/coordinator of international enTRANCE Magazine. Not only has she contributed extensively to the international festival community for the past 10 years as an artist/promoter/writer/creator, she has also worked on the production of most of the outdoor electronic music festivals around Australia since 2000. Resonant Temple is her production company specialising in event production, concepts & soundscapes.
Dakini has just returned to Australia after working as a Workshop Coordinator at a Shipibo Shamanic Healing Centre with female shamans in the Amazon jungle in Peru for the entirety of 2010 - http://www.templeofthewayoflight.org/. The Temple of the Way of Light - BENA CAYA AINBOBO (A New Feminine Spirit) is a Shipibo shamanic healing centre offering intensive Ayahuasca retreats with women healers near Iquitos in Peru. The centre is dedicated to offering visitors the chance to benefit from the ancient healing wisdom of the Shipibo people, and to helping this unique culture to preserve its knowledge and identity in the 21st Century.
In 2010 & 2011, Dakini directly supported Tipper (tippermusic –UK) on his national Australian tour, and was handpicked to perform for visionary artists Alex & Allyson Grey as they painted live around Australia (www.cosm.org).
